The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, was inaugurated for a second term in office on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, the state capital. The inauguration event was witnessed by dignitaries from across the country, including former governors and lawmakers.

In his inaugural speech, Governor Abiodun announced the pardon of 49 prison inmates and three death-row convicts on humanitarian grounds, following the advice of the Council set up to advise him on exercising his prerogative of mercy under the Constitution of Nigeria. He noted that the pardoned inmates demonstrated remorse for their crimes, acquired skills and certifications in prison, and demonstrated good conduct during their imprisonment.

The governor also listed some of his achievements in his first term, including the development of infrastructure, which he said was fairly and equitably distributed across the State, as well as the construction of 400 kilometres of roads. He also highlighted the construction of affordable housing units and the empowerment of women through the Oko’wo Dapo scheme. Governor Abiodun promised to continue with his administration’s ISEYA mantra and focus on completing ongoing projects in order to create more prosperity for the people.

The governor also outlined some of his plans for his second term in office, which include the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects, the building of more primary healthcare centres, and the provision of affordable housing units. He also revealed plans to improve the education sector through digitalisation and the use of e-learning tools, as well as the encouragement of agriculture by assisting farmers to produce more food.

Furthermore, Governor Abiodun disclosed plans to host the 2024 National Sports Festival in the state. He also promised to sustain investment drive, give attention to human development, and carry out reforms to reposition the civil service for more efficient service delivery.

In conclusion, the governor expressed his commitment to building a government that is transparent, equitable, accountable, and responsive to the needs of the people. He called for the support and cooperation of the people in his second term in office.
