President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has received letters of goodwill from several countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, and Saudi Arabia, among others. According to a statement from the Office of the President released on Monday, the special envoys and heads of missions of the countries involved presented the letters to Tinubu after his inauguration as the 16th President of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Among the countries that showed their support for the Nigerian leader were Japan, Brazil, South Korea, Israel, Cape Verde, Somalia, and Nicaragua.
During the ceremony, the newly appointed UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, presented letters from the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak and others indicating their happiness as Tinubu takes the mantle of leadership. The US delegation, led by Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Marcia L. Fudge, also had a brief bilateral meeting with President Tinubu.
Mr. Rahman, the spokesman for the President, further disclosed that the South Korean delegation and Tinubu held bilateral discussions. The delegation delivered a letter of invitation from South Korean President, Yoon Suk Yeol and expressed the desire to increase relations between both countries.
The special envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, also met with Tinubu and extended Japan’s support for Nigeria. Additionally, a delegation representing Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, also pledged to collaborate with the country in the field of fintech.
The President’s spokesman added that delegations from Brazil, Somaliland, Cape Verde and Nicaragua also met with President Tinubu and expressed their commitment to supporting his administration.
The support received from the international community is an indication that the world is watching and interested in the progress and development of Nigeria under Tinubu’s leadership.
