In a recent address, the newly sworn-in Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Dare, lamented over the appalling state of the state’s treasury, stating he met an empty treasury following his predecessor, Bello Matawalle’s exit. Additionally, Dare claimed he inherited huge debts and liabilities, adding up to billions of Naira.
While speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, Dare appealed to the people of the state to be very patient with him and give him their full support and cooperation during this trying time.
The Governor pledged to bring forth rapid development in the State, especially in the areas of agriculture, education, security, job opportunities, and healthcare, which he promised during the campaign period.
However, his predecessor, Matawalle, and his deputy, Hassan Nasiha, were absent during the inauguration ceremony. Matawalle had been away from the state since losing the gubernatorial election.
Governor Dare called on the youths to shun any form of criminal activity. He disclosed that he has come to rescue the state and will do his best to take Zamfara State to greater heights, with the grace of God.
It remains unknown how the previous administration spent the funds generated during their tenure, and the anti-graft agencies have been urged to investigate the matter to ascertain if there were corrupt practices during that period.
This development highlights the urgent need for good governance and transparency in public service to avoid such occurrences where public funds are not accounted for.
