A civil society group, the Coalition Against Corruption and Impunity, has called on the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, to revisit corruption cases that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission did not conclude during his tenure as Lagos State Governor.
According to the group, this is necessary to show that the anti-corruption fight is not selective and to improve the credibility of the party ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The group listed some of the cases, including the alleged misappropriation of N25bn loan by the Lagos State Government during Tinubu’s tenure and the N78m fraud case involving one of Tinubu’s aides, who was also a member of the House of Representatives.
The coalition also suggested that Tinubu should publicly declare his assets to prove that he has not enriched himself at the expense of the people.
The group’s spokesman, who spoke at a press conference in Lagos, asserted that corruption is a major problem facing the country and that leaders at all levels must be ready to lead by example in the fight against it.
He further stated that the lack of political will on the part of leaders to crack down on corruption has perpetuated the problem and warned that it must be addressed urgently if the country hopes to achieve sustainable development.
The Coalition Against Corruption and Impunity is made up of civil society groups, activists, and concerned citizens working to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance in Nigeria.
