Suspected Cult Group Kills Four Local Vigilante Members in Rivers State

A suspected cult group has killed four members of a local vigilante in Rundele community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State. The incident occurred on Monday night when the cultists invaded the community on a Keke Napep and an eighteen-seater commercial bus while allegedly whisking away some men alive.

According to a source in the community, the victims were all members of the local vigilante group, and two of them were beheaded and had their private parts chopped off. The source revealed that the suspected cultists were some indigenes who had been chased out of the community for being members of cult groups that were terrorizing the area at some point.

Upon their arrival, the criminals, who were fully armed, declared that they were returning to the community to reclaim their territory. The Rivers State Police Command has attributed the killings to a clash between suspected cult groups in the area.

In a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, four people died in the attack. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Polycarp, has ordered tactical units to be deployed to the area to arrest the perpetrators while investigations are ongoing.

The incident has raised concerns about the increasing cases of cult violence and related crimes in Rivers State. While the state government and security agencies have made efforts to curb the menace, the perpetrators continue to wreak havoc on communities, leaving sorrow, pain, and loss in their wake.

It is hoped that the police investigation will yield the desired results and that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be brought to justice. Meanwhile, residents of Rundele community and other areas prone to cult violence are advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
