After being shut down for two months due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the Plateau State House of Assembly has finally resumed plenary sessions. The House held its first plenary after the shutdown on Wednesday, following adherence to all COVID-19 protocol guidelines stipulated by the state government.
The Speaker of the House, Hon. Abok Ayuba, after acknowledging the presence of his colleagues, began proceedings by urging them to adhere to all health guidelines put in place to prevent the spread of the virus. Hon. Ayuba also reminded the members of their primary responsibility to the people of Plateau State, especially during this challenging period.
During the session, the House received a motion from Hon. Daniel Nanlong, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Communication, who called for a comprehensive review of the State’s 2020 budget to accommodate the new realities created by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hon. Nanlong said that the pandemic has brought new economic challenges that require urgent attention. He urged his colleagues to work together to come up with a budget that aligns with the current realities of the state, and that will help to mitigate the effects of the pandemic.
Other lawmakers also raised issues of concern, especially in the area of community development, security, and agriculture. They called on the state government to make these issues a top priority, considering the impact they have on the people.
The resumption of plenary by the Plateau State House of Assembly is a welcome development, as it will help to address some of the pressing issues affecting the state. The lawmakers must work together and harness their collective efforts to provide solutions that will positively impact the people of the state.
