Abia State House of Assembly Elects Urged to Avoid Imposition of Stooge as Speaker

As the inauguration of the 8th Assembly of the Abia State House approaches, the National Integrity Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has instructed members-elect of the House to avoid the imposition of a stooge as Speaker by State Governor, Alex Otti.

In a press release made by the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Francis Nwite, he urged the legislators to ensure that the individual selected to assume the role of Speaker is a person of credible qualities. This, according to him, would guarantee the independence of the Assembly and bolster democracy in the state.

The PDP National Integrity Forum, in what appears to be a subtle reference to the previous leadership, urged the legislators to remain steadfast and ensure that the Assembly is free of any form of manipulation through the instalment of a rubber-stamp Speaker.

The group expressed appreciation towards the 11 PDP members-elect, who have persevered in their quest to ensure that the independence of the State House of Assembly remains sacrosanct. They also called on Governor Alex Otti to remain accountable to the people of Abia and adhere to the constitution of Nigeria.

The PDP National Integrity Forum has encouraged the Abia State House to revisit the standing rules that designate only old ranking members to assume the position of Speaker and have such rules annulled.
