A Nigerian missionary priest, Rev Fr Kelvin Ugwu, who works in Gambia, has reported receiving threatening messages and insults in the past weeks. The cleric claims that there may be a plan to ruin his reputation, with an aim to have him arrested or killed. One of the threats he received relates to his post about the recently launched Nigeria Air. The controversial post read, “If you are foolish enough to even entertain the thought of ever boarding anything called Nigeria Air, at least, be wise enough to say your last prayers before boarding”.
While Ugwu admitted to using hard words on occasion, he argued that the situation of the launch of “fake Nigeria Air” demanded it. Ugwu also expressed dissatisfaction with the way President Bola Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidy, calling out the lack of groundwork, empathy, common sense, and tactic surrounding the announcement.
In a post via his verified Facebook page, Ugwu wrote, “I know there is a plan to taint my image and reputation. Maybe there is also a plan to get me arrested or killed. What did I do? Simple: I don’t paint words and I am not in support of the daylight fraud inaugurated as Nigerian president.”
Fr Ugwu, who claims to have overcome the fear of death, argued that he will continue to stand for the truth, even if he stands alone. He shared the screenshot of the insulting message he received to prove the point.
The priest criticised the decision to launch an airline in Nigeria and argued that cutting corners and neglect was not acceptable, especially not with airlines, where hundreds of lives could be lost as a result.
The source of the insulting messages was reportedly a UK number.
