Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s announcement of the removal of fuel subsidy.

According to DAILY NIGERIAN, President Tinubu stated in his inaugural address that the subsidy regime has been scrapped, following which the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced the adjustment of the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) across its retail outlets.

Mr Fayose commended the removal of the petrol subsidy as a wise decision by the Tinubu-led administration reiterating the need for Nigerians to cope with the current hardship, highlighting that the present suffering is only temporary.

In a Twitter thread, Fayose added that President Tinubu’s decision to remove the subsidy is best for the collective good of Nigeria and its people, emphasizing that the subsidy regime had only been beneficial to a few individuals in the oil industry.

Fayose appealed to Nigerians to give the government time, stating that this government’s strategic repositioning could lead to the country’s progress, which many past governments ignored.

He also condemned fuel marketers who, due to their greed, are exploiting the situation and making it difficult for ordinary Nigerians to access fuel, calling for strict measures to be put in place to deal with them.
