Sevilla beat Roma to win Europa League

Sevilla FC clinched their sixth Europa League trophy after defeating AS Roma 2-0 on Thursday in a one-leg quarter-final encounter held in Germany. The match was played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sevilla came out on top in a game where they were the better side throughout the 90 minutes. They dominated play and created numerous scoring opportunities, with both goals coming in the second half.

The first goal came in the 44th minute when Sergio Reguilon shot a low cross into the box that was deflected off Roma’s Gianluca Mancini and into the net.

Sevilla doubled their lead in the 70th minute when a long-range curling effort from Youssef En-Nesyri beat Roma goalkeeper Pau Lopez and found the back of the net.

Roma tried to respond but were unable to create any clear-cut opportunities and Sevilla held on for a comfortable victory.

The result means Sevilla will face Manchester United in the semi-finals of the competition.

The Andalusian side has won the Europa League five times in the last 15 years and will be looking to add a sixth trophy to their collection. For Roma, it is back to the drawing board as they look to regroup ahead of next season.

This victory is a much-needed boost for Sevilla and their fans, who have endured a difficult season domestically, finishing fourth in La Liga. The Europa League has provided them with some respite and another chance at silverware.

However, amidst the celebrations, it is important to note that the team dedicated their win to former Sevilla player Jose Antonio Reyes, who tragically died in a car accident last year. It is a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.
