As Nigeria continues to grapple with rising insecurity, former Lagos State governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Bola Tinubu, has held his first security meeting with service chiefs. The meeting was held at the Bourdillon residence of the APC stalwart in Lagos, and it was aimed at discussing ways to address the current security challenges facing the country.
The meeting, which lasted for hours, had in attendance the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao. Also in attendance were former security chiefs and other top security experts.
During the meeting, Tinubu expressed deep concern over the security crises in the country, noting that urgent measures needed to be taken to restore peace and order. He also commended the efforts of the security forces in tackling the menace of terrorism and banditry in the country.
The security chiefs, on their part, gave an overview of the current security situation in the country, highlighting the successes recorded by the security forces in recent times. They, however, noted that more still needed to be done to address the root causes of insecurity in the country.
The meeting also discussed strategies for improving intelligence gathering, collaboration among security agencies, and the need for better equipment and training for security personnel. Participants agreed that there was an urgent need to adopt a holistic and multi-faceted approach to addressing the security challenges facing Nigeria.
It would be recalled that Bola Tinubu had earlier called for a national dialogue on insecurity, stating that the country was in dire need of solutions to the security crisis. This meeting with the service chiefs is seen as a step towards finding lasting solutions to the security challenges facing Nigeria.
It is hoped that the outcome of the meeting will lead to a significant improvement in Nigeria’s security situation. However, there is a need for sustained efforts and collaboration among all stakeholders to achieve lasting peace and security in the country.
