Reverend Richard Peters, a cleric of the African Church in Akwa Ibom State, has condemned those who have criticized newly-sworn-in Governor Pastor Umo Eno for recent appointments. Peters branded the criticism as an act born out of witchcraft; the comments came during a monitored phone in radio program in Uyo where some callers aired complaints that the governor had appointed officials that were not technocrats into sensitive positions.

Peters suggested that these detractors were speaking out of ignorance, condemning the tendency for people to judge success or failure of a government before they have even had the chance to settle down and begin working.

“It is too early to start judging or assessing the governor just two days into his administration,” declared Peters. “This is devilish and an act of witchcraft to start judging somebody before he even starts work. Somebody is there criticizing the appointment, the governor only appointed his Protocol officer, Economic Advisor, spokesperson and SSG, which are very important.

“Before all these criticisms, let us see what he will do in his first 100 days in office or in his first term in office.”

Peters encouraged people to support Umo Eno in achieving his mandate and reminded listeners that constructive criticism can be expected in any government. He urged people to provide feedback that would facilitate progress without judging someone’s performance before they have even had the opportunity to begin their work.

“We know that criticism will come but not just two days in office and on the process of setting up a team that will interpret his blueprint. You cannot judge the performance of a student who just entered school two days at least you allow him undergo some necessary training, have tests then you observe his scores”.
