Opposition MP Sikhala’s Trial Resumes in Zimbabwe

The trial of Zimbabwean opposition lawmaker Job Sikhala, who is accused of inciting public violence, is set to continue on June 12. Sikhala, who has been held in jail for almost a year, is accused of causing unrest in the Nyatsime area after he recorded and published a video demanding justice for slain CCC activist Moreblessing Ali. The prosecution alleges that his utterances led to the destruction of houses belonging to Zanu PF supporters by Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters during Ali’s memorial service. His application for a postponement to allow prosecutors to study videos in his defense was granted by the magistrate. The trial, which was stopped in March when the presiding magistrate went on leave, will continue in June.
