Leadership Tussle Looms as Senate President and Speaker Visit Tinubu Ahead of Inauguration

In the preparation for the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila visited the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday.

Although the agenda of the meeting was to discuss security matters, rumors circulating from sources within the presidency suggests it might be related to the political power play for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly.

The inauguration of the members of the 10th National Assembly, where a new Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives will be elected, is slated for June 5th.

Media Talk Africa can confirm that there are six senators jostling for the position of the President of the 10th Senate, hailing from four of the nation’s six geo-political zones: the North-west, South-east, South-south, and North-central.

The leadership tussle holds high stakes as it sets the tone for the 10th National Assembly’s policies and will be watched closely by Nigerians.
