The North-Central teams, Lobi Stars of Makurdi and City FC of Abuja, will take the pitch at Eket Township Stadium on June 23, to open the Naija Super 8 play-offs. With the highest vote tallies from each geo-political zone, eight teams will engage in single elimination matches, with the top two heading to Lagos for the finals.
In the South-West matchup, 3SC of Ibadan will face off against Remo Stars of Sagamu on the same day, June 23. The second match-day on June 24, will feature a clash between two Enyimba of Aba and Heartland of Owerri, and also Yobe Stars of Damaturu against Gombe United FC of Gombe for the chance to represent the North-East.
The final day will see Kano Pillars taking on Katsina United, as well as Rivers United battling Bendel Insurance for the tickets to represent North-West and South-South respectively in the finals scheduled for the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos from July 7 to 16. Winners of the play-off games will be joined by two wildcard clubs to be determined by the organisers.
The ceremony to unveil the teams and release the fan voting exercise affirmed by Deloitte, the globally-renowned audit firm, took place last Friday in Lagos. The exercise ran for a month, with an impressive total of 1,926,495 votes.
The eight clubs participating in the finals will have distinguished mentors in the ex-internationals Austin Eguavoen, Mutiu Adepoju, Garba Lawal, Ike Shorunmu, Julius Aghahowa, Tijani Babangida and Victor Ezeji, who were also unveiled at the ceremony.
