Nigeria’s Bendel Insurance and Enugu Rangers have secured their places in the final of this year’s edition of FA Cup. The two Nigeria Professional Football League rivals overcame their opponents on Thursday to book their spot in the final.
Enugu Rangers reached the final after recording a 1-0 win over Plateau United in Ijebu Ode. Godwin Obaje, a former NPFL top scorer, scored the only goal of the match in stoppage time to prevent the game from going into straight penalties.
Meanwhile, Bendel Insurance defeated Warri Wolves 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time, with Amas Obasogie making a crucial save in the penalty shootout to see his side through.
With this victory, the two NPFL sides will renew their age-long rivalry once again in the final. Both teams have met twice in the final, with Insurance winning the first in 1978 with a 3-0 scoreline, and Rangers winning the second in 1981 with a 2-0 win.
The date for the final will be announced by the Nigeria Football Federation soon.
