Popular media personality and Nollywood actress, Toke Makinwa, recently shared how she felt after discovering her estranged husband, Maje Ayida, had gotten his ex-girlfriend pregnant. In the latest episode of her YouTube vlog series, Toke Moments, she disclosed that she only learned about the pregnancy when it was already nine months old.
This news had devastating consequences on her life as she found herself struggling with heartbreak and various emotions. According to Makinwa, every aspect of her life came crumbling down, and the world that she thought she had built became shattered.
Despite her emotional turmoil, the actress found some comfort in her job and had to continue going to work to keep going. When asked about how she managed to go to work even when her personal life was falling apart, she said, “I think that [my job] was the only thing that I was sure of in my life. Every other thing that was familiar has failed. The world that I had built had crumbled. And the only thing that I was sure of, was my job.
“I remember walking into the [radio] studio, and like 7am the World News goes on. And there is a call from the owner of the radio station, and he is like, ‘everyone is talking about you, I don’t want to get into it but people are thinking you would literally fall apart. I think you need to go home.”
Makinwa has been open about her struggles since her marriage with Ayida broke down, leading to their eventual divorce in 2017. Furthermore, she admits that allowing herself to feel her emotions only when necessary and immersing herself in her job keeps her going.
