Anambra Community Resolves Land Dispute and Sets Peace among Angry Youths

The conflict over a disputed piece of land in Nimo community, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, has now been resolved. The resolution ended a long-standing disagreement among community indigenes that led to several youth unrests.

The community leaders summoned all community indigenes, including males and females, to the community square to work out a solution to the land dispute at the weekend.

The land dispute, which was caused by the sale of a portion of land by community leaders to create Obodo Oma Estate, led to protests by some youth in the community. The youths believed that the contested land was acquired by their ancestors decades ago through conquest and should be inherited by future generations.

The community leaders, the President General, Ekenenna Okafor-Omabu, and the traditional ruler of the community, Onowu Ike Oliobi, conducted an inspection of the land before the meeting, where they explained the decision to use the land for the estate.

A former commissioner for justice and attorney general of Anambra State, Peter Afuba, shed more light on the land dispute and said that the estate would be occupied by only Nimo indigenes at a discounted rate.

Moreover, Afuba clarified that the decision to designate the land for the estate was to promote development within the community and prevent it from lying idle. The community’s youths also expressed their desire to be involved in decision-making by the trustees of the land to forestall future strife.
