Godwin Obaje, the forward for Rangers, has opened up about how he maintained his composure to score the winning goal for his team in the semi-finals of the Federation Cup held on Thursday.
The Coal City team was awarded a penalty kick in the 90th minute after their left-back, Philip Clement, was fouled in the box by a Plateau United defender.
Obaje, who was the former top scorer in the Nigerian Premier Football League, took the penalty kick and secured a crucial victory for the team.
Speaking to the media, Obaje revealed that before taking the penalty, he was thinking about the club’s supporters. He wanted to give them a reason to cheer after a substandard season in the Nigerian Premier Football League.
“I had to control my nerves to score the final-minute spot-kick against Plateau United,” he said.
Despite their poor NPFL campaign, Rangers have now reached the finals of the Federation Cup and will be taking on Bendel Insurance in a yet-to-be-announced venue and date.
