Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo, alongside other actors, have recently joined the campaign against depression and suicide initiated by Nigerian singer, Nwaguatahihia.
The campaign, which was launched on World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10), is aimed at raising awareness and providing a support system for individuals struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts.
Kanayo, who is known for his roles in Nollywood movies such as ‘Living in Bondage’ and ‘Family Battle,’ expressed his support for the cause, emphasizing the need for society to do more to address mental health issues. “Depression and suicide are real issues that require our collective attention and effort to combat,” he said.
Other actors who have lent their voices to the campaign include Toyin Abraham, Yul Edochie, and Ini Edo, among others. They all encouraged their fans and followers to seek help and support if they are struggling with mental health challenges.
In addition to the actors, several other well-known figures in Nigeria like Kaffy the dancer, and popular radio presenter, Daddy Freeze, have also shown support for the campaign on their social media platforms.
Nwaguatahihia, who has been vocal about her own struggles with depression, stated that she hopes the campaign will help to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health in Nigeria and encourage individuals to speak out and seek help.
It is commendable to see public figures use their platforms to support critical causes. The campaign against depression and suicide is a reminder that mental health issues are as significant as physical health concerns and should be treated with the same level of importance and urgency.
In conclusion, we urge individuals to cultivate a culture of empathy and support for one another, especially during these trying times where the COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated the challenges related to mental health. Remember, it is okay to seek help and support if you need it.
