Fintiri knocks Adamawa PDP stakeholders over political appointments

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has come under heavy criticism from some stakeholders in the state’s chapter of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over his recent political appointments.

The criticism from the stakeholders, which include some key figures within the party, is grounded in their belief that Fintiri has failed to give due consideration to the party’s long-standing principles of inclusiveness and fairness in his appointments.

Sources close to the party disclosed that a number of high profile party members have expressed their displeasure over Fintiri’s alleged disregard for party principles, calling his appointments “lopsided” and “favouritism-driven”. They also claim that the appointments are more geared towards rewarding loyalists than ensuring merit-based selection.

The Governor recently announced the appointment of over 150 heads of various government agencies, boards and commissions across the state. However, it was observed that some of the appointments had gone to non-party members, while some prominent party members were left out.

Reacting to the criticisms, Fintiri maintained that his appointments were based solely on merit and the qualifications of the appointees, insisting that he has not deviated from the party’s principles of inclusiveness and fairness.

He further stated that those complaining about the appointments are doing so out of envy and a lack of understanding of the dynamics of governance.

Meanwhile, some concerned citizens of the state have appealed to Fintiri to address the concerns of party members and ensure that his appointments are in line with the party’s principles of fairness and inclusiveness.

It is important to note that Nigeria’s political terrain is highly competitive and issues like this are not uncommon. However, it is also important for leaders to ensure that their actions promote party cohesion and unity rather than sow seeds of division.
