The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the demolition of all illegal structures in public places such as schools, mosques, playgrounds, graveyards, markets, and hospitals in the State. This directive is aimed at enforcing strict adherence to urban planning and ensuring the safety and beautification of the State.

In a post shared via his Twitter handle, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf stated that the demolition of the illegal structures at Race Course playground was the first step in reclaiming all encroached land in identified public places, which were used to erect illegal structures by private individuals or groups.

He urged residents of the State to be patient as his administration works towards achieving a prosperous Kano.

It was gathered that the move was necessitated by the encroachment of public spaces by private individuals and groups, leading to congestion, environmental pollution, and uncontrolled urbanisation. The government’s effort to reclaim these spaces is aimed at ensuring that public infrastructures are put in place for the benefit of citizens.

The demolition of illegal structures is in line with the Kano State Urban Development Masterplan, and the government intends to enforce compliance and restore order in the State.

The government assured all residents of its commitment to creating a conducive environment for economic growth and development in Kano State, as it progresses with the demolition exercise.

Residents are advised to be mindful of all public spaces and avoid encroaching on them along with following the guidelines of the State Urban Development Masterplan.

The exercise is ongoing and serves as a warning to anyone who may be considering erecting illegal structures in public spaces to have a rethink.
