In a heroic and courageous act, a Nepali guide successfully rescued a Malaysian climber from the death zone of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. The incident occurred on Wednesday when the climber, Wui Kin Chin, showed signs of altitude sickness at an altitude of 8,600 meters and collapsed.

The Nepali guide, Nirmal Purja, was ascending the mountain as part of his “Project Possible” where he aims to scale all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters in just seven months. Purja and his team were near the balcony area, which is located at an altitude of 8,400 meters, when they received news about the Malaysian climber’s critical condition.

Without any hesitation, Purja and his team quickly went to rescue the stranded climber. They encountered several challenges, including dodging hazardous crevasses, as they made their way towards the location of the climber.

Despite the thin air, freezing temperatures, and a lack of oxygen, Purja was able to carry the Malaysian climber on his back and rush him down to Camp 4, which is located at an altitude of 7,900 meters. The rescue operation was completed within four hours, and the Malaysian climber has now been evacuated to Kathmandu for further treatment.

The heroic act of Purja has been lauded by many, and rightfully so. His dedication, courage, and selflessness in the face of danger are a testament to the bravery of Nepali climbers and guides, who are at the forefront of the Himalayan mountaineering industry.

The incident also brings to light the dangers and risks associated with high-altitude mountaineering and the importance of adequate safety measures and training for climbers. With the climbing season still underway, it is essential for climbers to practice responsible mountaineering and ensure the safety of themselves and their team members.
