Denmark Pledges Support for Nigeria’s Renewable Energy Sector

Denmark has pledged to support Nigeria’s renewable energy sector with the aim of eliminating dependence on fossil fuels and easing the country’s energy crisis. The Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Jesper Kamp, disclosed this at a meeting with the Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu.

According to Kamp, Denmark has vast experience in the field of renewable energy, especially wind energy, and is keen to share its expertise with Nigeria. He stated that Denmark would provide technical assistance, capacity building, and investment in renewable energy projects in Nigeria. The ambassador also noted that Nigeria has enormous potential for renewable energy and that the country could benefit greatly from developing such resources.

In response, Onu expressed Nigeria’s appreciation for Denmark’s offer of assistance and emphasized the need for renewable energy to address the country’s energy problems. With more than half of Nigeria’s population lacking access to electricity, increasing renewable energy would not only improve access to power but also have a positive impact on economic growth and the environment.

The Minister added that Nigeria is committed to the global effort to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency. The government has set a target of generating 30% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030 and is working towards achieving this goal.

In conclusion, Denmark’s support for Nigeria’s renewable energy sector is a step in the right direction towards achieving sustainable energy in the country. With their expertise and assistance, Nigeria can tap into its vast potential for renewable energy and provide access to electricity for its citizens while contributing to global efforts in reducing carbon emissions.
