Tinubu Holds Crucial Meeting with Lawmakers-elect in Aso Rock

As the jostle for leadership positions in the 10th National Assembly heightens, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has called for a crucial meeting with lawmakers-elect at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, which was earlier scheduled for Monday, was rescheduled for Sunday due to the urgency of the matter. Senators-elect and members of the House of Representatives, including those from opposition parties like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party, were expected to attend the meeting.

It is not yet clear whether outgoing lawmakers will be participating in the meeting as the invitation did not indicate such. However, insiders speculate that the President may be using the meeting to persuade opposition lawmakers to support his nominees for the leadership positions in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

With the current ninth session of the National Assembly ending on June 11, and the 10th session set to be inaugurated on June 13, a new leadership is expected to emerge through an election by the lawmakers.

Rumours have been rife that Tinubu is backing former Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio, and current senator for Kano North, Barau Jibrin, for the positions of Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively.

The importance of this meeting cannot be overemphasized, as it is likely to influence the outcome of the leadership elections. Observers are eagerly waiting to see what the outcome of this meeting will be, and how it will impact the leadership of the 10th National Assembly.
