The former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has refuted speculations that he is seeking an appointment from President Bola Tinubu. During a live media chat on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Wike expressed his views on the zoning policies of the current administration and insisted he never lobbied for any position.

Wike, who belongs to the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), took a dig at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that God gave the party an opportunity to repent from their previous sins. He accused the previous administration of the party of mistreating Nigerians and breaking their trust. The former governor said that the APC now has an opportunity to make amends for their past mistakes.

“APC should be jubilating that God has given them an opportunity at the cost of PDP. God gave APC the chance to repent from the sins they committed against Nigerians,” Wike said.

As the country advances towards the 2023 elections, there have been renewed debates about zoning and power shift. The topic has not only dominated political discourse but has also sparked tension between various regions and ethnic groups. While some politicians argue that the presidency should be zoned to a specific part of the country, others advocate for meritocracy and competence.

Wike, who is one of the most vocal politicians in the country, has been rumored to be interested in running for president in 2023. However, he has not made any official declaration. His recent remarks about the APC have also fueled rumors that he may join the party.

The Nigerian political landscape is unpredictable and fluid, with alliances changing rapidly and politicians moving from one party to another. As the country prepares for the next elections, Nigerians are hoping that politicians will focus on addressing the country’s many challenges rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric and selfish pursuits.
