The bilateral relationship between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been deepened by a recent donation of 50 tonnes of high-quality dates presented to Nigeria by the Embassy of the Kingdom in Abuja. The donation was presented to the Nigerian government by the Ambassador of the Kingdom to Nigeria, Faisal Alghamdi.
KSRelief, King Salman Al Saud’s Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, provided the gift from the custodians of the two Holy Mosques as part of its commitment to its humanitarian role focused on alleviating the sufferings of all people in distress. KSRelief has been providing humanitarian support to Nigeria in various ways, and most recently executed the Et’am Initiative, through which 48,300 people received food baskets in Kano, Yobe, and Borno.
The Kingdom’s humanitarian centre intends to perform a medical diagnostic campaign in Abuja, Kano, and Lagos in the second quarter of 2023, where multiple medical procedures will be available free of charge for Nigerians.
The embassy’s statement read, “The handover of these dates is part of the humanitarian and Relief assistance presented by the custodian of the two holy mosques-may Allah protect him to a number of friendly countries among which is Nigeria so that it can reach needy families all over the world. This represents the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relationships at all levels.”
Since its foundation in May 2015, KSRelief has delivered over 2,374 projects worth more than $6.2 billion to 91 countries with the help of 175 United Nations members.
The Director of the Region at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Janet Olisa, accepted the gift on behalf of Nigeria and applauded the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its act of kindness. She expressed gratitude for the annual date gifts and their significance as a symbol of the strong bilateral relations between the two countries. She noted that the dates would be given to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, where they would be shared among those in need.
In summary, the generosity of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria speaks to the importance of bilateral agreements and supports toward building strong regional relationships that benefit the overall populace.
