Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has granted approval for the recruitment of 1,684 secondary school teachers, extension workers, and Aminu Saleh College of Education staff. Alhaji Yahuza Adamu Haruna, the State Head of Civil Service, disclosed this to journalists in Bauchi. He added that the lifting of the employment embargo into the state civil service by Governor Mohammed in his inaugural address on May 29 paved the way for the approval.

Out of the approved figure, 1,000 teachers specializing in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, ICT, and English Language are expected to be employed, while 150 staff are to be recruited into Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare. Additionally, 206 extension workers and farm managers are to be employed in the Ministry of Agriculture in response to the Governor’s pledge during the launch of the 2023 farming season and fertilizer distribution held in Azare.

The State’s Head of Service commended Governor Mohammed for authorizing the employment of new workers, emphasising that it would not only increase the availability of needed manpower in the relevant sectors but also make a significant contribution to the state’s economic growth. The exercise would also lessen the unemployment rate in the state.

However, the Head of Service warned applicants to be wary of fraudulent people and assured the general public that the recruitment process would be supervised by the government alongside security operatives to identify those that may take advantage of it to defraud unsuspecting applicants.

The State Council of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) welcomed the Governor’s decision. The NLC chairman in the state, Comrade Dauda Maidara Shu’aibu, appreciated the Governor for lifting the ban on employment in the state. Shu’aibu described Governor Mohammed as a listening governor, praising him for his efforts in reducing the unemployment rate in the state. It will be recalled that NLC, during its previous Workers’ Day, urged the Governor to increase employment in critical areas.
