The Muslim-Muslim ticket has been described as fraudulent by the spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed. Baba-Ahmed lamented how politicians have poisoned Nigerians’ faith using religion and accused them of using religion to destroy the country’s political system.

While featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Baba-Ahmed stated that the Muslim-Muslim ticket has done nothing to improve the quality of life for Muslims in Nigeria. He questioned the significance of the ticket, citing the example of former Muslim president who held office for eight years, but the North’s standard of living didn’t significantly improve.

Furthermore, Baba-Ahmed criticized the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, who he said destroyed several Muslim houses under the guise of urban renewal on the last day he left office. Baba-Ahmed stated that 95% of the destroyed houses belonged to Muslims, casting doubt on the supposed value of the Muslim-Muslim ticket to Muslims.

The Northern Elders Forum spokesperson opined that the use of faith in politics can lead to the destruction of the political system. He noted that politicians deceive Nigerians into thinking that a politician’s faith can distinguish him as a good or bad leader. Baba-Ahmed observed that an individual’s faith or religion should not determine his character or credentials.

In conclusion, Baba-Ahmed indicated that society must open its eyes to the reality of Nigerian politics and expose the fraudulent tactics employed by politicians to divide Nigerians by religion.

It is indeed alarming how politics in Nigeria has been weaponized along religious lines, and it is necessary to have a candid conversation about its impact on Nigerian politics and society at large.
