The commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Gold Chibuisi, is resolute in his decision to prevent terrorist incursions into Lake Chad Island.
During his operational visit to Blangoua in Cameroon, Bagasola and Bibi in the Chad Republic on Friday, the Force commander emphasized his determination not to allow terrorists to operate on the critical Lake Chad Island.
Maj. Gen. Chibuisi expressed that the purpose of his visit was to evaluate the nautical capacity of the MNJTF, urging his troops to maintain their support in consolidating the gains achieved during Operation Lake Sanity. The operation dealt significant blows to Boko Haram and seriously weakened their capacity to plan and operate from the Lake Chad islands, known as “Tumbus”.
The MNJTF’s operational visit to Cameroon and Chad followed a visit to Mallam-Fatori in Nigeria, followed by operations in Diffa and Bosso in Niger Republic. The visits support the on-going efforts towards countering terrorism and insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin.
Security experts have noted the instrumental role played by the MNJTF in the stabilisation of the region.
