Burna Boy and Tems Receive Multiple Nominations at the BET Awards

Burna Boy and Tems have been nominated in multiple categories at the upcoming Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards. The nomination list, released on the BET social media handles, boasts of both Nigerian artists being recognised in several categories alongside other international acts.

Burna boy, the multiple award-winning singer, has been nominated in four categories, including the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, where he will be competing against the likes of Chris Brown, Drake, Usher and The Weekend. The self-acclaimed African Giant has also been nominated for his video direction for the track “Last Last” in the Video Director of the Year category where he faces competitors such as Asap Rocky, Director X, Dave Free & Kendrick Lamar, among others. In addition, Burna Boy’s “Last Last” was also nominated in the Viewer’s Choice category, and Burna Boy received a second nomination in the Best International Act category.

Also, Tems, the Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, earned three nominations for the BET Awards, including a nomination for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist. She also earned two shared nominations with Future and Drake for their collaboration on the track “Wait for You” in the Best Collaboration and Viewer’s Choice categories.

In addition, Asake and Ayra Starr each received one nomination. Asake received a nomination in the Viewer’s Choice, Best New International Act category, while Ayra Starr was nominated in the Best International Act category alongside Burna Boy.

The BET Awards, an annual show by the Black Entertainment Television network, is a celebration of black entertainers in music, film, sports, and philanthropy. The event aims to recognise and celebrate the contributions of African and African American artists to the global entertainment industry.
