NUJ Appeals to FG for Palliative Measures after Fuel Subsidy Removal

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kano has requested that the Federal Government introduces palliative measures to alleviate the negative effects that the removal of fuel subsidy has on the citizens of Nigeria.

During the council’s monthly congress meeting in Kano, NUJ appealed to the government and stakeholders to create prompt strategies to minimize the adverse consequences of fuel subsidy withdrawal on the general public. The union emphasized the need to provide relief measures that would offer some reprieve to Nigerians who are already grappling with economic and social devastation.

In the communique jointly issued by the NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, and Secretary, Abba Mirtala, the union also commended the new mobile courts for their recent actions. The courts, which have handed down severe jail sentences to phone robbers without the option of fines, have shown a level of strictness that NUJ believes would deter criminals from engaging in such acts.

With the Eid-el-Kabir celebration around the corner, the NUJ urged everyone to remain vigilant in preventing any excesses and immoral activities that could occur among youths in gala centres.

The NUJ’s appeal comes in the wake of the removal of fuel subsidy, which has led to speculation of an increase in fuel prices. The union has called on the government to put measures in place that would ease the burden of the anticipated hike for ordinary Nigerians.

In conclusion, NUJ hopes that the government would take immediate steps to address the concerns of the citizens by introducing palliative measures to alleviate the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
