Police Apprehend Notorious Robbers in Jigawa State

The Jigawa State Police Command has announced the apprehension of two members of a notorious robbery syndicate by its operatives. Lawal Shiisu, the state’s police spokesperson, revealed in a statement on Sunday that the suspects were nabbed in Ringim Local Government Area during a sting operation.

Shiisu stated that the police team, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ringim Division, acted on credible intelligence received on June 2, 2023, about the activities of specialised armed robbers who had perfected their plans to carry out a heist along Wudil and Garko Road in Kano State.

Upon receiving the report, the police promptly swung into action, collaborating with local vigilantes to apprehend one Hamza Abdullahi, also known as Chumo, 22, of Wangara Fulani settlement. Also arrested was 25-year-old Hassan Ya’u of Tsoma Fulani settlement in Kano, who was found in possession of a locally-made fabricated revolver pistol and two motorcycles.

Further investigation revealed that both suspects confessed to blocking Dundubus-Gamoji Road on May 6, during which they abandoned two motorcycles upon sighting the police. They also confessed to participating in other armed robbery operations along Gujungu-Miga Road, Kiyawa-Shuwarin Road, and Fanisau-Kano Road, all located in Jigawa State.

Shiisu noted that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as the investigation was completed, and he expressed his appreciation for the people of Jigawa State’s collaboration with the police in catching the robbers.

He urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing necessary information to systemically rid the state of criminal elements.

This latest arrest comes as the police in Nigeria continue to wage their war against crime and work towards making communities safer for residents and visitors alike.
