Sunshine Stars Shine Bright in NPL Playoffs with Victory over Lobi

Stephen Chukwude’s early goal laid the foundation for a well-deserved 3-1 victory for Sunshine Stars in their final game of the Nigeria Premier League playoffs against Lobi Stars at Onikan’s Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday.

The Owena Waves took control of the game with a fine display of attacking football, creating several chances early on. Chukwude’s header in the 23rd minute found the back of the net, putting Sunshine Stars ahead.

The Akure club continued their domination, and their efforts paid off in the 39th minute when Fuad Ekelojuoti doubled their lead with a lovely finish.

Lobi Stars kept fighting and eventually found a breakthrough in the 69th minute when Elijah Ani headed in a cross from a free-kick. Despite having pulled one back, Lobi failed to mount a comeback. Vincent Temitope dashed their hopes of a draw by scoring the third goal of the game for Sunshine Stars in the 82nd minute.

The victory was a fitting end to a mixed season for Sunshine Stars, who could only manage five points in five games during the playoffs. Nevertheless, a win against the bottom-placed Lobi Stars would provide a much-needed boost for the club.

Lobi Stars, on the other hand, had a disappointing campaign, finishing the playoffs with three losses and two draws.
