On Friday, President Bola Tinubu suspended the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. Following this suspension, the Department of State Services (DSS) announced on Saturday that Emefiele was in their custody for “some investigative reasons.”
Now, senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has advised the DSS to transfer Emefiele to the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation and not to “bungle” the case on legal technicalities. According to Falana, the DSS lacks the power to investigate and prosecute Emefiele in respect of allegations of money laundering and other economic crimes.”
Falana has urged that Emefiele be handed over to an agency with the constitutional power to investigate such a case, which the EFCC possesses.
