NPL playoffs: Enyimba win record ninth title

Enyimba won the Nigeria Premier League title for a record ninth time after battling Rivers United to a 1-1 draw at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday night.

Finidi George’s side finished top of the standings with nine points from five matches in the Super Six playoffs.

The Aba giants have also earned a place in next season’s CAF Champions League.

Enyimba took the lead through Ekenne Awazie in the 37th minute.

Rivers United levelled three minutes after the break, with Nyima Nwagua firing home from inside the box.

Remo Stars finished second and will also compete in the CAF Champions League for the first time in the history of the club.

Dethroned champions Rivers United ended the competition in third place and qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup.
