As Nigeria commemorates Democracy Day, the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has called upon President Bola Tinubu to learn from the mistakes of the Buhari-led administration by spreading appointments across ethnic and religious lines.

The ECWA implored President Tinubu to prioritize the appointment of “Ministers, Service Chiefs and other Heads of Parastatals” based on merit, in an effort to make all citizens feel inclusively represented.

The church also called on the President to use the power of his office to secure the release of the Chibok school girls and other captives still being held.

In a statement, Rev. Stephen Baba Panya, the President of ECWA, stated that “Democracy is defined as the government of the people, by the people and for the people; hence anything short of meeting the needs and aspirations of the people who actually installed such democratic leaders would be considered a total failure.”

The church further emphasized that the Nigerian government needs to take urgent steps to address the growing concerns over insecurity, corruption, economic downturn, kidnapping, hunger, and general lack.

“Our economy needs total overhauling as means of livelihood have since disappeared from most quarters. Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the early fulfilment of numerous promises that all presently in authority made during their political campaigns just a few months ago,” Rev. Panya added.

ECWA’s message to President Tinubu is not limited to calls for diversity in appointments; it is also a clarion call for justice, peace and equity in governance, imploring leaders at all levels to be mindful of the pressing needs of their citizens and work hard to meet them. “I hereby call on the entire Christendom to be law-abiding, peaceful and true ambassadors of Jesus Christ in your spheres of influence and be sure to promote peaceful coexistence with all Nigerians,” Panya urged.

As Nigeria celebrates this Democracy Day, the ECWA remained prayerful that President Tinubu will heed its call and make Nigeria a better place for all.
