Manchester United Should Pursue Declan Rice Over Mason Mount, Says Jamie Carragher

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, has suggested that Manchester United should look to sign West Ham’s Declan Rice instead of Chelsea’s Mason Mount.

With both Mount and Rice being England internationals, it’s no surprise that they have been linked with big-money transfers this summer. However, Carragher believes that Rice would be a better addition to the Manchester United setup than his fellow countryman.

Although Mount has been considered an upgrade in the position where Eriksen played in the past, Carragher believes that Rice is the better choice for Manchester United and their current tactics.

“United are one of the few teams at the top who don’t play 4-3-3, it is usually two midfielders with Bruno Fernandes,” Carragher explained. “Declan Rice and Mason Mount, they are very different players and it should not be one or the other, but when you look at what Manchester United have got right now, I actually think Declan Rice would be a better fit for them.”

He further added, “I do think he [Mason Mount] is a good player and I like him, I wanted Liverpool to get him. Lots of coaches have picked him and liked him. There is already a good player in there, but Declan Rice would suit United more than Mason Mount in terms of how they set up.”

While Rice would undeniably be more expensive, it appears that Carragher believes the investment would be worth it for Manchester United. This would certainly be an interesting move for the club, who have made some big signings in recent years to re-establish themselves as Premier League contenders.
