In a recent development, the Adamawa State House of Assembly has elected and inaugurated a new Speaker, Bathiya Wesley, during the inaugural session of the 8th Assembly. Wesley was elected on Tuesday morning to represent Hong constituency in the Adamawa Central Senatorial District where the previous Speaker, Aminu Iya Abbas, hails from.
It is noteworthy that Abbas who won the election to represent the zone as a senator was simultaneously being sworn in Abuja while Wesley assumed the seat of Speaker in Yola. The new deputy speaker, Buba Mohammed Jijiwa, representing Jada MMbulo State constituency of southern Adamawa, was also elected unopposed and sworn in at the House of Assembly Complex in Yola.
Hours later at the Government House, Dougieri, Yola, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, administered the oath of office to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Awwal Tukur and the state Head of Service, Isa Ardo. Governor Fintiri emphasized the appointment of Dr Awwal Tukur was made solely on merit and that he has complete faith in his capabilities. It is important to mention that Dr Awwal is Fintiri’s former campaign director during the last general election.
Governor Fintiri charged both the newly appointed SSG and the Head of Service to bring their wealth of experience and skill to their new roles. The swearing-in ceremony for the new principal officers of the Adamawa House of Assembly and the state appointments were conducted separately by the state chief judge and in tandem with standard practices.
In a nutshell, the Adamawa State House of Assembly remains committed to upholding law and order by identifying and selecting competent individuals who have a proven record of leadership, hard work, and remarkable performance in their respective fields to occupy positions of responsibility.
