On the sidelines of the swearing-in ceremony in Abuja, Joshua Gana, an elected member of the House of Representatives from Niger State, asserts that the 10th Assembly will not be a subservient ‘rubber stamp’ legislature. The lawmaker, representing the Lavun, Mokwa, and Edati Federal Constituency, reassures Nigerians that the newly elected House is composed of responsible and high-minded individuals focused on serving the people.
Gana claims that despite the influence of the executive and political parties on the leadership of the 10th Assembly, members would remain committed to Nigerians’ welfare. He accentuates the fact that a vast group of astute and reputable people has come forward to represent the Nigerian populace at the parliament.
Further, he proclaims with confidence that all members of the legislature are wholly devoted to their constituents and determined to work for them day and night. Gana emphasises that the 360 members of the House of Assembly and 109 members of the Senate have been tasked with public service, and no single person’s influence will subsume their responsibility to Nigerians.
He also acknowledges the contentious relationship between the Executive and Legislature in the past and points out that such a reciprocal bond has not been helping the country’s economy. Gana suggests that both branches of government cooperate and support each other to ensure meaningful advancement in infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare, and industrial development.
Prof. Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information, concurs in his assessment of the mandate that Nigerians have given to the 10th Assembly. He admonishes the Executive to move the nation forward with rapid development across all sectors. Gana warns that Nigeria’s high population growth and slow pace of infrastructure development have placed a burden on the country. He urges the legislative and executive arms to work together to meet the people’s expectations.
In conclusion, Gana reinforces the fact that Nigerians have elected the lawmakers to represent them. The electorate believes that these persons have the integrity and commitment to carry out their duties honourably and diligently. The success of the 10th Assembly hinges on the legislators’ ability to harness their competence and resolve to designate a dynamic legislative agenda that betters the lives of Nigerians.
