The Nigerian National Football team, the Super Eagles, has announced that winger, Bright Osayi-Samuel, has finally joined the team in their Lagos camp. This follows two days of delay caused by club engagements in Turkey where the 24-year-old currently plays for Fenerbahce.
The announcement was made via the official Twitter handle of the team on Wednesday, saying “Camp don full…and the day is Bright! Update: 23 players in camp.”
The versatile defender’s arrival to the camp of the Super Eagles was eagerly anticipated as the national team prepares for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.
Osayi-Samuel was actively involved in Fenerbahce’s Turkish Cup final triumph against Istanbul Basaksehir over the weekend, which was likely the cause of his delayed arrival to the National team’s camp.
With Osayi-Samuel’s arrival, the Super Eagles now have a complete squad in camp as they continue their preparation for the AFCON qualification game against Liberia on Friday. The team had earlier held their first training session on Monday with only 21 players available, with Osayi-Samuel and Tyronne Ebuehi missing out due to club engagements. Although the players have since arrived, Kelechi Iheanacho is still expected to link up with the team later.
