An emergency general meeting called by The Independent Petroleum Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has caused panic among residents of Anambra state. The organization shut down several petrol stations in the area, causing many motorists to hike their fares and forcing some residents to resort to trekking to their destinations.
Although some speculate that the shutdown is intended to increase fuel prices, IPMAN’s Chairman, Mr Chinedu Anyaso, stated that this is not the case. Speaking to reporters, he emphasized that the closure was necessary to ensure that all members attended the emergency general meeting, which is set to take place in Awka.
The emergency meeting is being held to discuss the recent marking of around 16 filling stations in Ekwulobia for demolition. The demolition is set to make way for the construction of a proposed flyover in the area. Anyaso explained that members of IPMAN are willing to comply with the request, but have requested that the Anambra State Government compensate them for the loss of their properties as the filling stations are their only source of income.
According to Anyaso, IPMAN has already written to the state government concerning the matter but is yet to receive any reply. Therefore, the organization decided to hold an emergency general meeting to further engage with the government for the best possible outcome for its members and the motoring public.
It is important to note that the shutdown was not intended to cause harm or inconveniences to the public, and IPMAN apologizes for any inconvenience it may have caused.
