Human rights activist, Mr Obiora Omeje, has advised Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to adopt diplomatic solutions in his mission to end the recurring Monday sit-at-home observances. According to Media Talk Africa, Mbah issued a mandate that every business and office function on Mondays following his induction into office.
In a statement on Wednesday, Omeje cautioned that executive orders would not be enough to end the stay-at-home observances. He further stated that the enforcement of such executive orders could endanger the lives of Enugu residents. Omeje, who belongs to the Abuja School of Socio-Political Thought and the Centre for Liberty International, advised Mbah to rally Igbo leaders towards releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In his statement, Omeje said, “Governor Mbah should be a hero and make history by reaching out to prominent Igbo leaders, Ohanaeze, clergymen, governors to interface on how to release Mazi Nnamudi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.”
He added that President Bola Tinubu would listen to them and order the release of Kanu. Additionally, Omeje urged the governor to win popular support by providing basic infrastructure and amenities. He commended previous administrations such as former Governor Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his careful and diplomatic handling of IPOB issues.
The activist emphasized that no monetary value is worth the lives of Enugu citizens. It is the fundamental responsibility of the governor to ensure the safety and security of both life and property of his people as the chief security officer.
