Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has revealed that the First Session of the 10th State House of Assembly will be proclaimed on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, according to Media Talk Africa.
There are indications that the proclamation letters will be made available by the governor before the specified date.
A reliable source at the Bauchi House of Assembly, who spoke with Media Talk Africa, stated, “The governor will be present during the inauguration before traveling to Saudi Arabia to partake in the lesser Hajj.”
The 10th Bauchi Assembly comprises 31 members and is predominantly composed of the ruling party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in the state.
In the last State Assembly elections, the PDP secured the majority of 22 out of the 31 seats, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) won eight seats, leaving the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with just one seat.
Previously, the 9th Assembly in Bauchi State, which began in June 2018, was controlled by members of the All Progressives Congress, with 22 members. The PDP had eight members, while the New Nigeria People’s Party had one.
In the Speakership race, the longstanding tradition in Bauchi dictates that if the governor hails from the South, the Deputy must come from the North, while the Speaker must come from the Central.
The Bauchi Central Senatorial District covers the local government areas of Damban, Darazo, Ganjuwa, Misau, Ningi, and Warji.
Suleiman Abubakar, a former APC member representing Ningi Central State, currently holds the position of Speaker in the House. Abubakar defected to the PDP early last year and is expected to retain his seat due to his unwavering loyalty to the governor.
