The immediate past Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has vehemently refuted claims that he is attempting to evade arrest over corruption allegations.
In the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), numerous online reports surfaced suggesting that Malami had fled the country.
However, in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust on Thursday night, Malami debunked the rumors, asserting that he has not received any invitation letter from the EFCC.
Contrary to the viral reports, Malami clarified that he has not traveled outside the country.
Addressing the issue, he stated, “I have not been invited by the EFCC or any other anti-corruption agency in Nigeria. I am currently in Nigeria and will be attending a wedding Fatiha scheduled for 2.30 pm tomorrow at Sheikh Isiyaka Rabi’u Mosque in Kano.”
Asserting his loyalty to the Nigerian nation, Malami emphasized, “I have no plans of leaving Nigeria, and I will willingly comply with any invitation extended to me by any government agency. I am a patriotic Nigerian, and I wholeheartedly believe in the Nigerian project.”
He concluded by affirming, “I will make myself readily available to Nigeria and its institutions upon request.”
The former Minister’s statement comes amidst heightened speculations regarding corruption investigations and the anti-corruption stance of the current administration. Many will be eagerly watching for updates on this matter, as it unfolds.
