I was one of those who opposed EndSARS protests – Asari Dokubo

In a recent interview with Channels TV, former Niger Delta Militant Asari Dokubo has revealed that he was one of the individuals who opposed the EndSARS protests in 2020. Dokubo strongly criticized the protests, labeling them as “madness and nonsense.” He also accused Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), of fueling the protests.

Dokubo firmly believes that releasing Kanu would be an injustice, as he believes Kanu should face the law for instigating violent killings in the South East region. He pointed to Kanu’s actions during the EndSARS protests, stating that he “poured petrol on the flames” and should be held accountable for the lives lost.

“When the madness they called EndSARS started, I was one of the people vocal, opposed to that nonsense called EndSARS,” Dokubo expressed his dissenting view. “And Nnamdi Kanu was walking free then. What did he do? He poured petrol on the flames for EndSARS. Now, he has been caught. What of the people who have died? This is a criminal. He should face the law.”

Dokubo’s comments highlight the diverse range of opinions surrounding the EndSARS protests, which took place across Nigeria and gained international attention. While the movement was initially aimed at bringing an end to police brutality, it faced significant backlash from individuals like Dokubo who viewed the protests as chaotic and counterproductive.

It is worth noting that opinions on the EndSARS protests remain divided, even within Nigeria. Recognizing this diversity of perspectives is crucial for fostering informed discussions and ultimately working towards a more unified and inclusive society.
