In a display of gratitude and commitment, newly-elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and his Deputy, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, have promised to work tirelessly for the Nigerian people during their tenure as presiding officers of the 10th House.
During a “thank-you” visit to Nigeria’s esteemed first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in Abuja, the lawmakers expressed their dedication to serving the nation.
According to a statement released by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Musa Krishi, the duo stressed their determination to make the 10th Assembly a government that works for all Nigerians. The statement was made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday.
Abbas attributed his success at the election to the overwhelming support of his colleagues, which he considers a great responsibility in ensuring the lower legislative chamber achieves the aspirations of every Nigerian citizen.
During the visit, the Speaker led other members of the House in expressing appreciation to the first lady, assuring her that her support would not be taken for granted.
“We have made it a priority to show our gratitude and appreciation. The 10th House will give the Tinubu-led administration all the support it needs to succeed,” Abbas affirmed.
He further emphasized the importance of the legislature in contributing to successful governance, noting that key officials such as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have emerged from a background in the legislature.
“The President, the Vice-President, the First Lady, the Chief of Staff to the President, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation were all members of the National Assembly. This is the first time we are having this kind of arrangement in our history,” Abbas disclosed.
He added that the 10th House is determined to ensure the success of the government, stating, “Today is a very historic day. We have come to thank you for your support. We were here before to seek your support and prayers. Here we are today; we have won. It was through your collective efforts—Mr. President, yourself, governors, and all the other stakeholders. We have emerged in an unprecedented manner—353 out of 359 voted for me. It has never happened in our history.”
