The Katsina State Police Command has made significant strides in its ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and banditry in the region. In a recent operation, the police successfully neutralized five suspected terrorists, made one arrest, and recovered 143 animals in Jibia and Batsari Local Government Areas.
ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, confirmed these achievements in a statement to the press on Sunday. He disclosed that the operation, conducted through intelligence-led strategies, targeted and cleared several bandits’ camps in the affected areas.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with hunters and vigilantes, was spearheaded by the Command’s Officer in Charge of Anti-kidnapping Unit and that of the Special Investigations Bureau (SIB). Their concerted efforts led to the dismantling of notorious bandits’ hideouts in Marake, Garin Yara, and Garin Labo villages in Batsari local government, as well as the camp of Audu Lankai, a notorious bandits’ leader operating in Jibia and its environs.
During the operation, the police arrested one suspected notorious bandit, Abubakar Idris, 18, and neutralized five other armed criminals. Additionally, the team recovered 38 cows, 40 sheep, and 65 goats that had been stolen by the terrorists.
ASP Abubakar Aliyu noted that the police are still meticulously examining the crime scenes for possible further arrests or the recovery of additional bodies of the criminals. In light of these achievements, the Police Commissioner is urging residents of Katsina State to continue supporting security agencies with crucial intelligence that can help curb criminal activities in the region.
