The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Monisade Afuye, has assured ruling houses across the state of the government’s support for any initiatives aimed at ensuring a seamless process for the installation of traditional rulers, free from any crises.

During a meeting with members of the royal families from Egbe Ekiti, Ayekire Local Government Area, the Deputy Governor expressed her commitment to supporting actions taken by communities to stabilize the ruling houses, thereby facilitating the speedy installation of a new Oba.

Mrs Afuye, who presided over the meeting, emphasized that the government will thoroughly evaluate any proposals before making recommendations to the State Executive Council for approval. She stressed the importance of consulting with critical stakeholders to ensure that everyone is included in the decision-making process.

She commended the community for their unanimous agreement to amend the names of their ruling houses from Fadumiye and Olokesusi to Atiilo and Ibeagbemi Ruling Houses. According to her, this amendment will help prevent future crises in the town.

The Owa Egbe, Oba Ayodele Ige, explained that the decision to change the names was made collectively by the ruling houses in order to maintain harmony in the community. He justified the action by stating that Ibeagbemi and Atiilo were the original progenitors of Fadumiye and Olokesusi, respectively.

Defending the proposed amendment, two kingmakers from the community, Chiefs Alex Abegunde and Sunday Rotiba, revealed that all the high chiefs supported the initiative put forward by the royal families.

The Ekiti State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace and stability in the installation of traditional rulers. It is hoped that with the backing of the government, the process of installing an Oba will become easier and more seamless in the state.
