Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha Calls Attention to Underreported Killings

In a startling revelation, former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha recently shed light on the dire security situation in Imo State, emphasizing that the number of killings in the region is being significantly underreported.

Addressing the media in Owerri, Okorocha recounted a disturbing incident where his convoy was attacked at Amuro in Okigwe Local Government Area of Enugu. This incident served as a pivotal moment for him to draw attention to the escalating violence in the state.

Amidst these troubling circumstances, Okorocha called upon President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene and address the deteriorating security situation, emphasizing that it is spiraling out of control.

Notably, Okorocha acknowledged Governor Peter Mbah’s approval of the security personnel who escorted him from Enugu to attend the burial of former Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s mother. However, he stressed that such measures were merely a temporary solution and failed to address the underlying security crisis effectively.

Expressing his concern, Okorocha lamented, “The killings in Imo are underreported, and we are not sufficiently conveying this information to the federal government. I appeal to President Tinubu to come and help us. Lives are being lost daily in Imo State, and we cannot ignore this devastating reality.”

The former governor called on political leaders to unite in an effort to tackle this security challenge head-on. Additionally, he announced his intention to write an open letter to Governor Hope Uzodimma, urging collaboration to curb the ongoing violence.

As Imo State grapples with these escalating security concerns, it becomes imperative for the government at all levels to prioritize the protection and well-being of its citizens.
